Region VII Day 2 (cont)

Just attended a very interesting session on connecting campus resources to increase student success. It reminded me of how much UCAN has evolved to include professionals in Admissions, Student Development, and Housing (just to name a few). It is the interaction between Academic Readiness and Housing that is the reason for my attendance at this conference. My co-presenters are in fact, both Hall Directors. The cooperation between our two areas has been fantastic, reaching more students than we could have without that parternship. More students are having conversations with UNT staff because of this, which helps them to forge a connection to the university.
The session also reinforced how important it is to have conversations accross different divisions and departments. Also how important it is for advisors to be aware of what other offices, both in and out of advising, do for our students. I think UCAN does a great job of getting conversations started and informing each other of what is out there for our students.
I know that there are many things we can do better as an organization and university, but I am very proud of the role that UCAN plays at UNT.
