Region VII Day 2 (cont)

Just got back from Becky King's presentation. Great job Becky!!!

Becky's presentation makes one think about how we deal with our international students. Does your department have a go-to person that handles the special needs of international students? What do you know about their requirements?

Region VII Day 2 (cont)

Just attended a very interesting session on connecting campus resources to increase student success. It reminded me of how much UCAN has evolved to include professionals in Admissions, Student Development, and Housing (just to name a few). It is the interaction between Academic Readiness and Housing that is the reason for my attendance at this conference. My co-presenters are in fact, both Hall Directors. The cooperation between our two areas has been fantastic, reaching more students than we could have without that parternship.

Region VII Day 2

Just attended my first session. It was on a summer program for provisionally admitted students at LSU. I enjoyed the session, but was hoping to learn about how they deal with their developmental education students. Unfortunately for me, they don't have them!! During the discussion period, several advisors from other schools did describe their summer programs, most of which did have a developmental component, so I was able to get some ideas.

Off to session #2. I just have to decide which one! There are so many good ones!

Live Blogging from Region VII

What a day! It started at 4 am with my alarm going off. My colleagues in housing picked me up at 5:20 am for our 6:55 am flight. We arrived in New Orleans on time (mostly) and got settled in at the hotel. By 10:15 am, we were headed to the French Quarter to eat beignets and drink cafe au lait at Cafe du Monde.
