What can blogging do for you?

I’m a blogger. I have been posting entries to my personal Weblog (or Blog for short) for nearly 3 years and have really enjoyed it. The format is ideal for my purposes, getting out useful (and some not so useful but entertaining) information to my family and friends. It’s quick, easy and free — the trifecta of web content management.

So what can blogging do for academic advising? Imagine a web site that advisors can use to post their ideas about advising practices or theories — a safe, non threatening environment where counselors and advisors can get feedback on their ideas instantly or over the course of a semester. This web site could be an online forum to continue the conversation that starts in the monthly meeting; an incubator for developing ideas into programs, policies and presentations. Now imagine that this web site could be created, maintained and updated for free.

You would have a blog — the technology is free, the possibilities are endless.
